Kotex menstrual pads & tampons: "Are you in the know?"
etiquette booklet for teenage girls, 1956, U.S.A.
For years copywriters for Kotex produced Are you
in the know? advertisements for teenage American girls. This 1956
booklet is a compilation of these ads published by Kimberly-Clark. There
are almost only Caucasians in these ads, and
the advice they give, and the dress of the people, suggest at least an upper-middle class audience. Times have certainly
changed! See a more complete discussion elsewhere.
The language can be hilarious and probably reflects teenage speech of
the time.
SarahAnne Hazlewood generously donated the booklet to this museum.
