Not a shadow of a doubt
Ad for Kotex menstrual pads (9 March 1953, U.S.A., publication unknown)

At this time Modess was showing its long-running "Modess . . . . because" series with women in expensive-looking dresses. Was Kotex copying this idea of beautiful clothes while menstruating? But a problem: no way the pad would cause a shadow under the clothes in most of these ads!

In two similar but older ads (1927 & 1932 ) Kotex again brings clothing to the fore.
