Artist's
Statement
Using landscape as a way to
express my experience of
menopause, I painted in oil.
Years of peri-menopause led to
abrupt changes, wet and fertile
to dry. Extreme anxiety attacks,
hypoglycemia, thyroid
dysfunction, vaginal changes,
constant racing heart pattern
and hot flashes, osteopenia. No
hormone replacement therapy for
personal reasons.
Yes: beta-blockers, synthroid,
fosomax.
Four years later: yes,
synthroid, fosomax; no,
beta-blockers.
Yes, natural vitamins,
homeopathy.
Post-menopause: no monthly
periods, no mood swings, no pain
from cramps, no bloating,
anxiety, no chance of
conceiving.
Left is sensitivity to hot and
cold, a clearer mind to
contemplate a chance to achieve
new goals, explore the world and
to appreciate being alive!!!
